Who we are.
Climbing Victoria is the representative body for recreational climbing organisations and individuals across Victoria. Our organisation is built on a diverse and experienced community of climbers, working together to support, advocate for, and grow the sport.
Guided by our Purpose and Code of Conduct, we are committed to fostering an inclusive, safe, and sustainable climbing environment for all.
Our Journey So Far
Climbing Victoria was officially incorporated on 6 May 2024. As we transition to a fully formalised organisation, several key steps are underway to establish our governance structure and membership framework.
Interim Board
Until our first Annual General Meeting (AGM) and formal board elections, Climbing Victoria is managed by an interim board consisting of members from the Climbing Victoria Advisory Council (CVAC).
Mike Rockell (Independent)
Coralie Reich (RMIT Outdoors Club)
Steve Toal (Victorian Climbing Club)
Adam Merrick (Western Victorian Climbing Club)
Andrew Knight (Outdoors Victoria)
Melissa Edwards (ClimbingQTs)
Martin Jackson (Crag Stewards Victoria)
Board Composition & Voting Process
Five board members will be elected by Full Member Organisations (FMOs) at the AGM.
If there are more than 30 individual members, they will have the opportunity to elect an Individual Member Representative to join the board.
The elected board (five or six members) will appoint a Chair and Secretary at their first meeting.
The board may appoint up to two additional members (for a maximum of eight) to enhance diversity, skills, and experience.
Nominations for Board Positions
Any member can nominate themselves or be nominated for a two-year term on the board. Full Member Organisations will prioritise candidates who bring a strong mix of skills, experience, and perspectives to ensure a well-balanced and effective board.
Board members are expected to make a meaningful contribution to Climbing Victoria’s direction and operations, aligning with our Purposes and Code of Conduct.
Next Steps
Details regarding our first AGM and board elections will be shared soon. Stay tuned for updates on how you can get involved and help shape the future of Climbing Victoria.
